WELCOME to Our CanRamblers Walking Group Site!
The "CanRambers" is a group of friends who like to explore Greater Victoria's historical and natural areas together. It was started by Terry Boorman in July 2011.
Terry continues to organize weekly walks and outings to visit parks, hike trails, and explore neighborhoods on architectural, historical and scenic self-guided walking tours. All members are encouraged to lead walks as this adds variety to the group walks.
We have walked more than 369 times since 2011 and have covered most of the paths and trails around Greater Victoria on Vancouver island, Canada.
This group was originally named the "CAMRAmblers Walking Group". We decided in December 2017 that, since most of our walkers are no longer members of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale group), we would change our group name to the "CanRamblers". A very small change, indeed; just the letter N. But the new name is very fitting because it indicates that we are a CANadian walking group, and also declares: "Yes we CAN!"
At the CamRamblers Christmas party in December 2017, a prototype of a logo for the walking group was passed around for comments and discussion. Some changes were made and the logo that you see to the left is what most people voted on as their choice for a logo. We have had it printed on t-shirts that most of the members wear.
Starting January 2018, the pages on this site contain brief summaries of each walk or gathering, along with links to associated photos. Pages are organized by year, and can be accessed via the drop-down lists in the menu bar at the top of the page. The focus is on exercise and compatible outings. Walks usually end up with a visit to a nearby pub for lunch and a pint, an ample reward!
